(From social media) HELP Frigidaire and Home Depot ! We ordered a FRFN2813AF fridge on June 30th. It was supposed to be delivered July 3rd but the fridge was damaged when loaded on the truck.
Delivery was rescheduled to July 7th, but the fridge was damaged when loaded on the truck.
Ordered one from Lowe’s too (didn’t cancel our Home Depot order yet) and was scheduled for delivery July 10 but the fridge was damaged when loaded on the truck.
Now rescheduled to July 14th for Home Depot, and July 21st for Lowe’s.
What are the chances it will be loaded properly this time?
Meanwhile we’ve been living out of a dorm fridge and a cooler. Can we get an undamaged fridge, please?!
Update:
July 13th: After emailing the Home Depot CEO regarding this matter and explaining I hadn’t gone back to Home Depot since 2020 because of poor customer service at my local store and we only went there because they had the fastest delivery turnaround, the CEO’s office reached out to me and let me know that they had been in touch with the store, distribution center and installers to ensure a worry-free delivery. They said they would follow up with me after the delivery.
Aside from my own mishap the morning of July 14th (delivery #4 day), it went rather smoothly. My mishap was the water spigot behind my fridge for the ice maker and water dispensers was not turning off because of our previous hard water which has ruined most of the faucets in the house (this is one that I haven’t changed yet) and the spraying of water all over me and the back of the old fridge when I was trying to unhook the water line so it would be an easy install. I had to run down to the basement to shut the main water supply off while my daughter held the ice maker hose crimped over a makeshift water bucket. Just then the doorbell rang and it was the installers!

The delivery team had me inspect the fridge and I doublechecked the model number to make sure it was the same one on the receipt. If we had a fridge that was even a 1/2″ taller, it wouldn’t have fit in our spot! That would have been a disaster as I would’ve had to remove the cabinet above the fridge! More on that later. It looked good and they brought it in and two more guys showed up and took the old one out. Great service!

If you tilt your head to the left, the handle tops are even with each other. Have you heard the joke about the guy who buys a suit with one sleeve longer than the other? Kind of like that. Home Depot corporate did call me not long after the delivery team left and asked how everything was. I mentioned everything was fine and my only complaint was the handles were not even with each other. I asked the installers to straighten them and they tried, so after they left I even tried swapping the handles to see if that made a difference but it didn’t. I think the studs that are drilled through the front of the fridge that the handles attach to are drilled on the right door a little higher than the left door. I bet the doors were stamped or drilled in a different batch so they don’t match up–if it’s automated. They ended up giving us a nice gift card to spend at Home Depot as well as discount the price of the fridge. Very nice indeed!
Conclusion:
The adage “They don’t make them the way they used to” certainly applies to appliances. Growing up, we had one fridge, one washer and one dryer for most of the time I lived at home. Through the years my dad did some maintenance to them, but when he couldn’t fix them economically any longer, we got new ones. These days things don’t last as long as they used to. That’s a fact.
This fridge is the 5th one we’ve had at this house in about 22 years. One was in the house when we bought it, one we bought from a friend when the first one quit. Two of them at least went bad because of the ice maker/water dispenser getting all gummed up and leaking. I bet it was because of the hard water. It could’ve been our electric panel too, that we recently had replaced because we had flickering lights from our generator transfer switch that was not installed properly. Now all that is sorted, we have our fingers crossed as well as the extended warranty. We swear by extended warranties as our last fridge crapped out at one point and not only did they replace the fridge, they reimbursed us for all the food we had to throw away. That extended warranty expired and a few years later here we are needing a new one.

My advice: Buy the extended warranty on appliances, build it into your final price. If you get crappy service and aren’t getting anywhere with the people in front of you, go up the ladder, up to the CEO if you need to. Someone needs to know that service is bad.

Part 2
The fridge has been working okay for the past week or so. We noticed the compressor noise has been getting progressively louder. I tried troubleshooting from Frigidaire’s website and one suggestion is to make sure the fridge is on a level floor. I put a level on top of our fridge and found it was sloping slightly toward the back. Easy enough, I can see the little adjustable feet at the front, so I’ll wheel it away from the wall and adjust the back feet. But there are no adjustable back feet. Now what?
Maybe I can get a thin piece of wood and prop the back of the fridge onto it. I’ve got just the thing, an old composite (plastic) window blind about 3″ wide and 1/8″ thick– perfect! Nope. I can’t get the fridge to back up onto it. Let me try reaching out to Frigidaire’s online chat like the website keeps prompting me to do.

Wednesday July 22nd: While I’m at the Weird Al concert, I get a text from my wife with this photo. “The fridge is not keeping cold.” Yeah, “Hi” yourself!
Now the fridge isn’t keeping cold, the freezer works fine though. Break out the powered cooler AGAIN and transfer stuff back down to the dorm fridge in the basement.
That night I open a chat with Frigidaire and after going around with their A.I. bot, I finally let them know I need in home service. They have a convenient online scheduler and it asks you the best day and time slot for you. Great, I work from home on Fridays, I’ll choose that day! The next day I get a call from the 3rd party local repair shop Frigidaire has contracted with. Unfortunately they’re booked solid until August 10th! So I call Frigidaire’s toll free customer service line. They apologize and after a bit of small talk, they say ‘okay, let me set you up for a different day.’ I let them know I’m flexible, things are slow at work and I’m about a 7 minute drive from home, so I can always do an early lunch or something.
About an hour later, I get a call from the SAME 3rd party contractor who says “Hi, uh, I think I spoke to you earlier. We’re booked out until August 10th…” Crap. Let me call Frigidaire back. After some back and forth, I let them know our fridge was in fact 10 days old and not working correctly. They tell me to keep an eye on my email and check the spam/junk folder just in case. I do. A day passes. Nothing. I share the “Hi” photo (above) and fridge noise video with Frigidaire on Instagram and Facebook and finally get a reply “Hi, Terry. We have let our team know. We have also sent them the videos you sent us on Instagram. Thank you!”
Friday, July 24. By this time, I’m of course tired of not getting anywhere with Frigidaire, so I email the Home Depot office of the CEO again (who helped me out before) and let them know what’s going on with our 10 day old fridge. Their reply was “I reached out to the warranty management of Electrolux to see if they can find a service company to arrive sooner than 8/10 and/or consider just replacing the one you have. Hope to have an update on Monday.”
Later that night I get this email “We wanted to provide you with an update from our Warranty Review Team. At this time, we are still working to locate an available technician to complete your service repair.
Please know that we are working closely with our service network to have this resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible. Once a technician has been assigned and the appointment is finalized, you will be notified with the updated service details.”
Fingers crossed!
July 27: Email from Electrolux/Frigidaire: Thank you for scheduling a service appointment. JD APPLIANCE REPAIR LLC will be performing this repair.
I spoke to JD and they’ll be out Wednesday the 29th. He said it sounds like the fan is rubbing up against something.
Also, late on the 27th, I got this message on FB from Frigidaire. Sounds like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

July 29: The following is the email I sent to Home Depot corporate offices:
The repair guy is here now and essentially telling us that we’re not closing the freezer door properly and that’s why it’s so loud. There’s frost in the freezer and that’s an indication that the freezer door is not being closed properly. So that’s making the fridge not able to cycle the cold air from the freezer up to the fridge.
Sorry, that’s not an acceptable amount of troubleshooting. He took readings with his thermometer and saw it was cold enough now, but of course it’s been anything but reliable. We’ve had bottom-freezer units for years and even with kids, we’re aware of when the door isn’t closed properly.
There’s no diagnostic that he can run he says, nothing to plug into to get any readings. I would think appliances with circuit boards made in the 21st Century would have some kind of electronics that could tell us something. I’m in IT, and find that hard to believe.
The buttons on the control panel don’t work properly so he’s going to order a panel and let us know when it comes in, probably next week. I would think there’s some kind of electrical/electronic issue with the fridge if that’s already needing replacing and not to mention the loud noises it’s making. After playing him two videos of the fridge making noise he said “Yup, that’s how loud these are.”
I tried reaching out to Electrolux/Frigidaire corporate myself and have not heard back. Their customer service is not much help at all.
If there’s anything you can suggest, we’re pretty desperate for a working, reliable fridge at this point. I’m hoping Frigidaire will do the right thing for us.
July 30: We woke up to this today.
This is in our kitchen using a decibel meter app. Here are other examples that are in the same dB range.
73 dB: A ringing digital alarm clock.
73 dB: An electric coffee grinder.
70 dB: A household washing machine or dishwasher.
70 dB: A standard vacuum cleaner.
75 dB: A handheld hair dryer or a passing passenger car.
