Guyker GK-601 Active Pickups (affilate link) are similar to the EMG active pickups such as the EMG 81 and 85 for guitar. Guyker’s set comes with quick connect-type wires for the pickup wires but the potentiometers in the set are regular, solder on type connectors/wires. Their set comes with mounting rings, screws, springs as well as three of those 25k ohm potentiometers, two tone capacitors, a stereo (TRS) 1/4″ jack and a 9V battery connector. Interesting why they includes 3 pots and not 4 and not a switch as well. I have asked them to include a link to a 3-way switch.
If you’re new to guitar wiring, this may not be the easiest to assemble. It’s not as straightforward as say an EVH Frankie guitar (pickup, pot, output), rather it has a few different possibilities. I chose to do the same controls as the original wiring, just 1 volume, 1 tone and 1 3-way switch. Guyker asked me to come up with some wiring diagrams and instructions, which I am working on. I have also done installation instructions for their TVG pickups that I put in my DG-335 project.
My choice for these active pickups was my Firefly Bass VI. If you’re not familiar with a Bass VI, it’s essentially a baritone guitar with a 30″ scale length (regular guitars have a scale length around 24-25″) and strings tuned as low as a bass guitar. I have mine tuned an octave lower than a standard guitar tuning. It sounds interesting and different. Lots of artist have used them, from the tic-tac bass lines of the 60’s and 70’s to Robert Smith of the Cure to even Eddie Van Halen on the song Poundcake!
