I think the snare I’m using for my banjo bass is not thick enough. The string tension is misshaping it and it won’t play nice figuratively and literally. Maybe bending some laminate flooring I have and gluing it in there to reinforce it or maybe cut a piece of 2×4 and glue it to the ends where the guitar hardware is bolted in (shown in red in the photo) might help. I can hear it creaking and cracking when I go to tune it up plus there’s no tuning stability because the snare drum wood is flexing.
